Middle Grade Endorsement

Middle Grade (5-8) Endorsements: Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ offers coursework that leads to Middle Grade subsequent endorsements in Language Arts, Social Science, General Science, and Mathematics. Middle Grade endorsements allow one to teach in a specific content area in grades 5 through 8 or in grades 5 and 6 in a Self Contained General Education class (no fewer than 5 hours in each content area to be taught). Middle Grade endorsements require a content specific methods course.  Some coursework at the upper level is strongly suggested.  Passage of the appropriate .  At Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ the classes that meet the Middle Grade endorsement & methods requirements are as follows:

MG ENDORSEMENT (Grades 5-8) COURSEWORK CONTENT TEST

Language Arts

18 semester hours or

4.5 Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ units 

Language Arts coursework: english, journalism, reading, speech, communications + Language Arts methods course EDUC 360  Middle Grade Language Arts

Social Science 

18 semester hours or

4.5 Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ units

Social Science coursework required areas: economics, geography (Ä¢¹½´«Ã½'s -environmental studies with geography focus), history, civics & government (Ä¢¹½´«Ã½'s political science) + Social Science methods course EDUC 361

If additional hours needed can use electives in psychology, sociology, anthropology, religious studies

Middle Grade Social Science 

Science

18 semester hours or

4.5 Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ units

Science coursework required areas: physical sciences (chemistry, physics, environmental studies), life sciences (biology, environmental studies), earth and space sciences (environmental studies, physics) + Science methods course EDUC 363 

Middle Grade Science

Mathematics

18 semester hours or

4.5 Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ units

Math coursework: algebra, geometry, probability, and/or statistics (can use ECON 227/PSY 227 for statistics) are recommended + Math methods course EDUC 362.
